Heinz UK

Beanz Meanz Heinz

baked beansBizarrely for Global Gophers this section is about the UK products of an American firm. Most Briton's have been brought up with Heinz products everyday of their lives so that it comes as a surprise that the firm is in actual fact American and not British.

Henry Heinz first started out in 1869 with horseradish before moving on to sauerkraut, pickles and mustard in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania. The relationship with Britain started in 1886 when Henry Heinz sailed to England and showed some of his products to one of the finest shops in London - Fortnum & Mason - which were promptly accepted.

In later years Heinz became purveyor to the Queen (and can thus display the emblem stating that it is). Around this time the British public presumably embraced Heinz as a UK company.

Heinz has done particularly well in the UK and its Heinz Baked Beans are its best seller. Although you can buy beans in America they are much sweeter than the British variety.  And whereas in Britain Beans are eaten with any meal or as a meal in themselves, in America they are usually simply an accompaniment to a barbeque.

Heinz Tomato Soup and Macaroni Cheese are other British favourites.

Order all of your favourite British varieties of Heinz products from the British Gopher and we will buy items for you and ship them to your door.
