Lemonade – a brief history
The history of this quintessential American drink is murky – the earliest definitive evidence of the lemon and lemon juice mainly come from Egypt.
Medieval Jewish Egyptian records show that a mixture of lemon juice and sugar was knocked back by the local people from the 10th – 13th Centuries – it was even sold abroad.
Selling lemonade on the side of the road for 10 cents (inflation means that it’s usually sold for about a quarter nowadays) has become a rite of passage for many young Americans in the long hot summers.
One of the best-known brands of lemonade is Country Time, they introduced the flavored drink in 1976. A year later they produced pink lemonade.
Why not make a request for lemonade powder from the American Gopher to sip during the hot summer?
Other flavors Country Time produce include “raspberry lemonade” and “strawberry lemonade”.
