Every American child (and adult come to think of it) loves this treat which has developed into a cultural tradition. A S'More put simply is two melted marshmallows and some chocolate in between two graham crackers (an American-style biscuit).

The name S'more originates from frequent requests made by hungry people saying "some more" with their mouth full. The first one was so good that they wanted some more.

It is not really known where the recipe comes from. A S'more is a bit like a sandwich which most people know was invented by the 4th Earl of Sandwich who asked for his meat between two pieces of bread so as not to interrupt his gambling. S'Mores are an important element of camping and have been a traditional Boy Scout and Girl Scout treat for generations.

Nowadays, S'mores are an essential barbecue treat and are typically eaten around campfires as well. In fact, they have even become commonplace on the dessert menus of several "trendy" New York restaurants, where you can toast your marshmallows over a small gas flame and are served the graham crackers and chocolate on the side!

The most common ingredients for S'Mores (not smores - the apostrophe is needed) are Graham Crackers (pronounced "Gram"), Hershey's Chocolate and Marshmallows. Break the graham cracker in two, put some chocolate on one, melt a large marshmallow over the campfire, place on top of the chocolate, smoosh the other graham cracker on the top and voila you have your S'More sandwich. The heat of the gooey marshmallow will melt the chocolate.

Unfortunately, graham crackers are not widely available outside of the U.S. So make a request from you USA Gopher for these and the other essential ingredients: Graham Crackers, Marshmallows and Hershey's Milk Chocolate.
